An Armband
is worn around the upper arm. As the name, armband,
suggests, it can be warped around the upper arm.
It
is usually a strip of cloth. It can also be a distinctive
material that is wrapped around the upper arm. Some
armbands are used for identification.
These include
memberships in certain social or political groups.
On some occasions, men sew black armbands onto their
sleeves to signify mourning. Sometimes, it is a symbol
of historical significance.
Queen Juliana of the Netherlands
was gifted one such armband from the people of her
colonies. Armbands were very fashionable among Iranian
royalty. It was also very popular among the Indian royalty.
The Queen of England has worn armbands on many occasions. These though,
are made as jewelry. The most precious jewels of the
era, from the royal treasury, were once on armbands. Famous examples
include the Darya-e Noor diamond. |
